BERLIN (AP) — Germany's appointee for creating sex abuse guidelines is urging the government to provide more therapy and support for older victims who can no longer bring their cases before a court.

Christine Bergmann said Tuesday that people who were molested or otherwise abused as children continue to suffer for decades, especially individuals whose cases fall outside of the statute of limitations.

She called for legislation that would provide victims of sexual abuse with therapy, or require institutions to do so, if the abuse took place in a church or school.

Bergmann was tapped to lead a commission examining ways to deal with any sex abuse that occurs in Germany after a rash of cases came to light in 2010, including dozens involving the Roman Catholic Church. She presented her findings Tuesday.
