	Disgusting Behavior by Local Catholic Diocese By Yael T. It appears church officials essentially hid the incidents from law officials for about five months. The full, stomach-churning story here It’s just one more example of how Catholic Church officials still - after years of proven allegations about bad behavior by priests toward children - don’t get it. Instead of protecting priests, church leaders are supposed to be protecting children. The diocese released an absurd-sounding statement on the issue, in part saying, “First and foremost, the diocese is concerned for the safety and welfare of the unidentified children and their families.” But that doesn’t appear to be true, given the long lapse in time in which the diocese found out about the suspected activity and when it was reported to law enforcement officials. The priest, if guilty as accused, should be strongly punished. But Clay County officials also ought to continue investigating the diocese’s actions in this case. If cause is found that evidence was hidden or a legal investigation was obstructed, charges should be considered against the diocese as well.
