Roman Catholic Bishop Raymond Lahey is now serving jail time after pleading guilty to a child pornography charge. On Lahey's return to Canada from Britain in 2009, border agents searched his computer in Ottawa International Airport and found pornographic photos and videos involving boys.
Lahey pleaded guilty in court Wednesday to one count of possession of the pornographic materials for the purposes of importation. It's expected a second possession charge will be dropped as part of a plea deal when he is sentenced. Lahey waived bail Wednesday and opted to begin serving his sentence immediately in order to earn credit after sentencing.
Lahey was the former head of the diocese in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. The 70-year-old is from Newfoundland and was posted to work in a number of communities across the province.
