	Vatican Vows to Deal with Kiddie-Porn Bishop Hamilton Spectator May 5, 2011 http://www.thespec.com/news/world/article/527228--vatican-vows-to-deal-with-kiddie-porn-bishop OTTAWA The Vatican says it will punish Raymond Lahey, now that the Canadian bishop has pleaded guilty to importing child pornography. Lahey pleaded guilty to the charge Wednesday, and was taken into custody after waiving his right to bail until his sentencing. The 70-year-old bishop entered the plea in an Ottawa courtroom. The Vatican says that with Lahey's criminal trial over, the church will now impose its own disciplinary or penal measures against him. In a statement, it says the Roman Catholic Church "condemns sexual exploitation in all its forms, especially when perpetrated against minors." It's not clear what punishment Lahey could face from the Vatican. Prelates who sexually abuse minors can be defrocked. Lesser punishments include being forbidden from publicly celebrating mass. Lahey was charged in 2009 with possessing and importing child pornography after border agents examined his laptop at the Ottawa airport on his return home from Britain.
