While thousands celebrated the beatification of Pope John Paul the Second Saturday in Rome not everyone is pleased with the action.

Hundreds of clergy sex abuse victims and their supporters asked congregates to sign a pledge to report suspicions of child sex abuse to secular authorities.

David Clohessy, the National Director of SNAP says Pope John Paul presided over the biggest scandal in modern church history and did little to protect children or remove predators. He says the Catholic church’s beatification of John Paul is sending out the wrong message.

Beatification is the first major milestone on the path to possible sainthood. A second miracle attributed to John Paul’s intercession is needed for him to be canonized.
