It will, we believe, help deter future recklessness and cover ups of child sex crimes and suspicions. This is precisely the kind of action that is so rarely taken by church officials, especially Catholic officials, when child sex reports surface. Sadly, church hierarchies rarely punish wrongdoers - citing a woefully misguided understanding of 'forgiveness' - thus essentially endorsing and encouraging more wrongdoing. At the same time, however, we're surprised that the ACA so rarely suspended accreditation. We hope the organization will consider this step more often as a means of prodding camp operators to take children's safety more seriously. (SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the world's oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims. We've been around for 23 years and have more than 10,000 members. Despite the word "priest" in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers.
