SANDWICH - State and local police were at Camp Good News in Sandwich Tuesday morning for a period of time. According to the Cape Cod Times, Sandwich police did not allow reporters on the property. The newspaper said, "Police this morning are investigating a potential suicide by gunshot at Camp Good News in Sandwich, the site of a new child molestation allegation this week, said David Procopio, a state police spokesman."

The Christian summer camp has been in the headlines since Senator Scott Brown in his autobiography claimed he was molested there as a child by one of the camp's counselors.

It was reported this week that another victim has come forward claiming to have also been molested at the camp. The Cape Cod Times reported this morning that the accused is not the same person Brown claimed molested him in the 70s and that the person--currently under investigation--still works at the camp. The alleged incident took place in or around 1985. The daily confirmed Wednesday afternoon that the man who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound was 43-year-old Charles R. DeVita. DeVita was the target of the investigation begun after this week's molestation charges were made.

Around 10:30 a.m., an ambulance left the property, prompting speculation of the then unconfirmed suicide. In the video at right, the ambulance is seen leaving, followed by a hearse around 11:40 a.m. Sandwich police officers escorted a pickup on a flatbed truck from the campground property shortly thereafter.
