Attorney: Alleged Victim Empowered by Brown Thebostonchannel April 5, 2011 http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news/27438449/detail.html [with video] BOSTON -- Saying he was empowered by Sen. Scott Brown's revelation that he was the victim of a sexual assault when he young camper, another local man has come forward saying he too was sexually abused by a counselor at a Cape Cod camp, possibly the same one Brown attended. Attorney Mitchell Garabedian said his client is still experiencing pain related to the assault and he is seeking criminal prosecution. Garabedian referred the allegation to the Cape and Islands district attorney's office on Monday. "He was approximately 10 years old when he was repeatedly sexually molested and that was in about 1985," Garabedian said, without releasing the victim's name. State police are investigating the alleged incident at Camp Good News in Sandwich, Mass. Camp operators said they are horrified and told the Boston Globe that things like this happened in the 1970s and 1980s. Garabedian said he was told the alleged perpetrator is involved at the camp. "The alleged perpetrator had many titles (including) counselor, assistant director," Garabedian said. "For everybody this has happened to, they deal with them in their own time," Brown said during a local appearance over the weekend talking about abuse allegations. He has never named the camp and said he's he is not seeking prosecution, despite criticism. "Forty-two years later, I'm still kind of dealing with it. I'm still kind of wrestling with it in my own way," Brown said. Tuesday, Brown's staff said he has no further comment, but he's apparently helped other alleged victims to speak up. "He saw that Senator Brown had the courage to come forward and report sexual abuse as a child and my client felt empowered by that and it gave him strength and it gave him courage," Garabedian said. He said five other people have come forward as a result of Brown's revelations. Four of them are men and one is a woman, all of them saying they were assaulted when they were children in attacks that were unrelated to the camp. |
