The Knights of Columbus are pushing forth with their motions to get a pair of lawsuits filed against the group by two men who allege that they were sexually abused by one of their youth leaders several decades ago. The two men sued the group, based in New Haven, Connecticut saying that a former leader of the Columbian Squires, the groups youth program, abused them in Texas back in the 1970's and 1980's. Knights of Columbus cite the statute of limitations as the reason to have the case dismissed.

Lawyers for the Knights say that the lawsuit should be dismissed under Texas law which maintains that suits regarding sexual molestation must be filed within two years of someone turning 18. Jeffrey Herman, the attorney for the two men, will file to oppose the motion to dismiss arguing that Connecticut's more generous statute of limitations should apply.

According to one of the lawsuits, officials with the Knights of Columbus were informed by a boy involved that he was being abused by the leader back in 1986, but the leaders at the time appear to have concealed the reprot of abuse and intimidated the victim into not making the abuse known to the public. The Knights say that the lawsuit does not identify the boy in question who made the report, or the leaders to whom the abuse was made known.
