Most Rev. Thomas J. Olmsted, bishop of Phoenix, and the Office of Child and Youth Protection invite all who have been victims of abuse — including their families, friends and the community — to gather for a Mass of Healing and Reconciliation. The Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, 4510 N. 24th St. in Phoenix.

The Mass will be an opportunity “to have people come forward from the community who would like to pray for survivors of abuse, whether they were abused by clergy, an employee or volunteer, or anyone else,” said Paul Pfaffenberger, director of the diocesan Office of Child and Youth Protection, which sponsors the Mass.

“On the eve of Lent, a special season in the Church devoted to prayer and penance, we offer all who have been scandalized by abuse the opportunity to pray with one voice for healing” he added.

Bishop Olmsted said he recognizes how difficult it is for victims of abuse to maintain their faith; he prays that through this Mass “God will grant the grace for trust to be rebuilt and will bring healing and new hope to those who have suffered.”
