A former NFL player is telling his story to try and help lawmaker's changes to the child sex abuse statute of limitations.

Al Chesley was 49 years old when he decided to speak out for the very first time about what happened to him as a young teenager.

That was four years ago.

Since then, he says his life has changed for the better and that he tells his story, not for himself, but to try and help other children to come forward if they have been sexually abused.

Chesley says at age 13, a Washington DC police officer raped him.

It was something he suppressed for 33 years.

Chesley and Jeff Dion, the Executive Director of the National Center for Victims of Crime, want Virginia Lawmaker's to increase the statute of limitations to 20 years.

They believe it's not just about past victims but also about making sure the abusers get caught, no matter how much time has passed.

Dion also says it's a known fact that Pedophiles don't retire.
