Cdf Orders Prominent Chilean Priest to Life of Prayer, Penitence Catholic Culture February 21, 2011 http://www.catholicculture.org/news/headlines/index.cfm?storyid=9334 The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has found Father Fernando Karadima, one of Chile's most prominent priests, guilty of sexual abuse. The 80-year-old priest, according to the congregation's ruling, is subject to a "lifelong prohibition from the public exercise of any ministerial act, particularly confession and the spiritual guidance of any category of persons" and "retirement to a life of prayer and penitence, also in reparation to the victims of his abuses." A leader in the Catholic Action movement, Father Karadima, who helped train five of the nation's bishops, was accused of abusing young men while hearing their confessions. |
