Senator Scott Brown has revealed abuse he suffered as child in an upcoming interview with CBS's 60 Minutes

Brown says that as a child he was sexually abused by a camp counselor and physically abused by a stepfather

Senator Scott Brown is not going to press charges against the former summer camp counsellor he claims sexually abused him 40 years ago.

The Senator also refused to identify his alleged attacked to prosecutors.

Last night he said he did not reveal his torment 'to settle any scores' but to let people know they can overcome hardships.

Cape and Island's District Attorney Michael O'Keefe told the Boston Globe that the Massachusetts Republican told him he does not want to pursue the case.

He said he will respect Mr Brown's wishes.

In a book to be released Monday, Mr Brown says he was molested by the camp counsellor when he was 10.

The Cape Cod Times has confirmed the camp was Camp Good News in Sandwich.

The Republican senator from Massachusetts will also tell CBS's '60 Minutes' on Sunday night that he was abused by his stepfather.

Brown says a camp counselor threatened to kill him if he disclosed the sexual abuse.

He also says he looked into buying a home where a stepfather had physically abused him just so he could 'burn it down.'

Brown emerged on the national political scene with his improbable victory in the race for Senator Edward Kennedy's seat.

He details the childhood trauma in a new book, 'Against All Odds.'

Brown told the CBS show that his mother doesn't know about the sexual abuse. 'That's what happens when you're a victim. You're embarrassed. You're hurt.'

According to Brown, he was touched and was forced to touch the counselor.

'Fortunately, nothing was ever fully consummated, so to speak, but it was certainly, back then, very traumatic.'

The counselor abused him on multiple occasions, he added, 'as predators do.'

'He said "If you tell anybody...I'll kill you. I will make sure that nobody believes you".'

Brown said that, due to the abuse he suffered at home, he was more susceptible to being victimized.

'When people find people like me at that young vulnerable age, who are basically lost, the thing that they have over you is, they make you believe that no one will believe you.'
