We hope he stays behind bars, hopefully for a long time. But the best way to make sure this happens is for victims, witnesses and whistleblowers to call police and share any information they may have, however old or small or seemingly insignificant. Often citizens get complacent when sex offenders are arrested. We want to believe "everything will turn out fine," and we stay silent and get complacent. Then, suddenly, a predator escapes responsibility on a technicality or gets an extremely lenient sentence and we become outraged. But then, it's usually too late. So now is the time to step forward if you have any suspicions or information that might help police and prosecutors successful convict Warlick or find others he has hurt. We beg everyone, but especially Presbyterian officials, to spread the word about this dangerous man. Oviedo child-porn suspect to appear in federal court Samuel Shamba Warlick was also accused by the Presbyterian Church of abusing children in the Congo in the 1980s. By Amy Pavuk, Orlando Sentinel 7:26 a.m. EST, February 16, 2011 An Oviedo man who was accused by the Presbyterian Church of sexually abusing children at a housing facility for missionary families, and was recently arrested by the FBI in a child-pornography case, will appear in Orlando federal court today. Samuel Shamba Warlick, who was arrested in January via a criminal complaint, was recently indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of distributing and possessing child pornography. He will be arraigned on those new charges at an 11:45 a.m. hearing. Law-enforcement officers began investigating Warlick, 39, in December in an undercover capacity via a peer-to-peer file sharing program online. An undercover agent reviewed dozens of images and videos from Warlick and determined many of them were child pornography, according to the criminal complaint. Agents searched Warlick's home on Pecan Street last month, and during their questioning, Warlick said he has possessed child porn for the past 10 years and that he prefers boys who are between 13 and 16 years old. Warlick's arrest came three months after the Presbyterian Church (USA) published a report, unrelated to the FBI case, accusing him of sexually abusing kids at a housing facility in the Congo in the late 1980s. The Church's panel stated it named Warlick in the report because of aggravating factors, including that his behavior could have been prosecuted criminally had it occurred in the United States. apavuk@tribune.com or 407-420-5735
