What are the implications for the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington's churches and schools from the priest sex abuse lawsuit settlement?

Retired Widener University law professor Tom Reed says plaintiffs' attorney Tom Neuberger's claim that the Diocese has hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of real estate holdings that could be sold to help pay the cost of the 77 point 4 million-dollar settlement is hard to confirm without having the properties appraised.

Reed says the settlement will wipe out most of the Diocese's financial reserves, including funds from the Diocesan Foundation, which has supported Catholic education here for 90 years.
