More than eight years after the Catholic Church sex abuse scandal erupted, the Archdiocese of Boston has yet to publish an official list of priests who have been credibly accused of assaulting parishioners during the past five decades.

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Baltimore released its list in 2002. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia followed suit in 2005. And the Archdiocese of Chicago has been updating its online list since 2006. According to The Boston Globe, officials of the Boston Archdiocese insist they are working on producing such a list, but have not explained why it is taking so long or when it might be finished.

On Wednesday, Mitchell Garabedian, an attorney for clergy sex abuse victims, decided enough was enough, and released his own list of alleged abusers, The Associated Press reported. This list includes the names of 117 members of the clergy, laymen or members of other religious orders who have been accused of abusing parishioners in cases that Garabedian's law firm has settled. Garabedian said he released the names because it was "time to end the secrecy."

In response to Garabedian's list going public, the Archdiocese of Boston issued a statement to the press that said: "We continue to evaluate the complexities of this initiative, especially those associated with disclosing information relating to deceased priests or those accused of a crime, whose guilt or innocence has not been established, and the serious due process concerns this presents."
