The Diocese of Steubenville released a statement Thursday.

STEUBENVILLE,Ohio -- This is a statement from the Diocese of Steubenville

Gregg M. Bahen will be permitted by the Diocese of Steubenville to return Jan. 18 to Catholic Central High School, Steubenville, as a coach and teacher.

Bahen had been placed on paid leave Dec. 16, after a Catholic Central High School student alleged incidents of physical abuse against him.

At that time, acting under the Diocese of Steubenville's "Decree on Child Protection," diocesan Vicar General Kurt H. Kemo had determined that there was a semblance of truth to the allegation.

Subsequently, Msgr. Kemo conducted a full investigation into the allegation, which included interviewing witnesses, under oath, and meeting with a response team, set up to review testimony and discuss the alleged incidents.

As a result, Msgr. Kemo said that the response team concluded that the incidents brought against Bahen did not rise to the level of what constitutes child abuse, as outlined in a legal or clinical definition.

Members of the response team included the vicar general, a clinical counselor with expertise in child abuse and a high school principal.
