Poll: Was the Vatican Right to Refuse the Murphy Commission? The Journal December 11, 2010 http://www.thejournal.ie/poll-was-the-vatican-right-to-refuse-the-murphy-commission-2010-12/?voted=1 [reader poll]
THE LATEST WIKILEAKS documents show that the Vatican was “offended” by how the Murphy Commission had asked it to help in its inquiries, believing the contact was an “affront to Vatican sovereignty”. The Vatican – or, officially, the Holy See – considers itself an independent state, and therefore said it would only help with the inquiries if the request had come from the Irish government itself, and not from a legal inquiry. Today we want to know – do you think the Vatican was right to take the stance it did? Is the Holy See a true independent entity – and even if it is, should it still have refused to help? |
