The Holy See invited the public to assess the reliability of files involving reports sent to the US Department of State from the US embassy to the Vatican, claiming they must be judged with great caution and reserve. "Such reports," Vatican authorities stated, "reflect the perceptions and opinions of those who wrote them, and cannot be considered expression of the Holy See itself nor precise citations of its Officials' statements". . .
