	Jury Awards $30 Million More in Priest Abuse Case News Journal December 8, 2010 http://www.delawareonline.com/article/20101208/NEWS/101208054/Jury-awards-30-million-more-in-priest-abuse-case A jury today ordered defrocked priest John DeLuca to pay an additional $30 million in punitive damages and St. Elizabeth Parish to pay an additional $1. Last week. the jury awarded John Vai $30 million in damages for the years of abuse he suffered in the late 1960s at the hands of DeLuca – an associate pastor at St. Elizabeth at the time – and held the parish responsible for $3 million of that award. The jury today considered whether to impose an additional, punitive award to – as Vai’s attorneys put it – send a message about child abuse and the apparent cover-up of that abuse.
