  Wikileaks Roundup (so Far)

The Firedoglake
November 28, 2010

– Der Spiegel’s cover for tomorrow (via Gawker) acidly notes what the State Department cables show regarding what the US thinks of world leaders.

– Spencer Ackerman on how the official US response so far has been to talk past the revelations and engage in specious handwaving.

– Emptywheel on how even the foreign press is holding back many of the cables. Presumably much of this is as embarrassing to other nations as it is to the US.

More as it’s known.

UPDATE: Barry Eisler comments on Twitter: “Reading@wikileaks, get the feeling Saudis look at the US (with justification) as their private mercenary force. #cablegate”

Also from Twitter, via bencnn: “#Wikileaks: Mubarak hates Hamas, considers them same as Egypt’s own Muslim Brotherhood, which he sees as his most dangerous political threat”

UPDATE 5:45 PM Pacific Time: So far, the main revelations have been mostly about Iran and the Saudis. This is interesting, as earlier indications had been that topics such as the Vatican’s efforts to cover up the global pedophile scandal and Iceland’s war with the banksters might be part of the data dump. So far, bupkis — though Wikileaks hasn’t finished leaking yet.
