Trial for retired priest charged with indecent assault of 10 boys

A 75-year-old retired priest facing allegations that he indecently assaulted 10 boys at various locations in the diocese of Meath has been sent forward for trial next year.

Raymond Brady, Baltrasna, Oldcastle, Co Meath, was served with the book of evidence when he appeared before Kells District Court yesterday. The offences are alleged to have taken place on various dates between 1964 and 1978. Judge Patrick Clyne certified legal aid to cover legal representation for the accused at the Circuit Court. He sent him forward for trial to Trim Circuit Court sitting on February 1st, 2011. He was remanded on continuing bail to that date.

Man gets 13 years for shooting

A Finglas man who shot at and superficially wounded another young man and three months later was caught with ˆ18,000 of cocaine has been given a 13-year sentence.

Darren Dunne (18), Cappagh Avenue, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a handgun, assault causing harm on October 18th, 2009, and possession of cocaine for supply on January 16th, 2010.

Food firm fined as man loses arm

Ingredients company Dawn Farm Foods was fined ˆ65,000 at Naas Circuit Criminal Court yesterday after an incident in which an employee’s arm became entangled in machinery.

Stephen Burke, of The Maudlins, Naas, Co Kildare, was cleaning machinery when his left hand became entangled. He suffered an amputation at mid-forearm.
