Archdiocese Sued over Alleged Sexual Abuse of 4 Edina Brothers KSTP November 17, 2010 http://kstp.com/article/stories/s1843875.shtml The Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis is being sued for fraud. A lawsuit filed Monday in Ramsey County District Court accuses the Archdiocese of covering up and taking no action after the alleged sexual abuse of four Edina brothers by a priest assigned to Our Lady of Grace church in Edina during the 1960's. Jeff Anderson and Associates filed the suit on behalf of the brothers now in their late 40's and 50's. It claims Fr. Thomas Stitts, who died in 1985, inappropriately touched the four brothers on mulitple occasions after befriending the family. The alleged abuse happened between 1967 and 1973. The lawsuit alleges that in 1970, and on several occasions after that, the St. Paul-Minneapolis Archdiocese supervisors were made aware of Farther Stitts’ sexual misconduct, but took no disciplinary steps against him and did nothing to prevent future abuse or warn other families. Attorney Patrick Noaker says instead, the Archdiocese moved Stitts from parish to parish. This is the fourth lawsuit against the Archdiocese involving Fr. Stitts. He is accused of abusing nearly a dozen children. At least three of the other allegations involve children at St. Leo's parish in St. Paul's Highland Park neighborhood. Stitts also served at Guardian Angels in Hastings, St. Geroge's in St. Paul, St. George's in Long Lake and St. John the Baptist in New Brighton before his death. KSTP.com called the archdiocese for comment. At the time of publication the call had not been returned, |
