Archbishop Dolan defeated Bishop Gerald Kicanas of Tucson, Arizona, by a vote of 128 to 111 at an assembly in Baltimore. The Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (Snap) praised the defeat of Bishop Kicanas because of his links to Fr Daniel McCormack of Chicago, who pleaded guilty in July 2007 to abusing five boys and was sentenced to five years in prison. – (Reuters) Rangel convicted by ethics panel WASHINGTON – The US Congress has convicted one of its longest-standing members, Charles Rangel, a Democrat from New York, on 11 counts of financial and fundraising misconduct. An eight-member House of Representatives ethics panel said there was “clear and convincing evidence” that Mr Rangel (80) was guilty of all but two of the 13 charges he faced. Mr Rangel’s convictions include improperly soliciting millions of dollars from private firms and lobbyists doing business with the committee he chaired to fund a centre in his name at a New York college. – (Reuters)
