This week, Chicago Cardinal Francis George wraps up his three-year term as president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. His likely successor will be Bishop Gerald Kicanas, of Tucson, Ariz., the vice president.

The Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests is not happy about the expected appointment, which will be voted on by bishops. Their complaint revolves around Kicanas' admission that while rector of Mundelein Seminary in the 1990s, he was aware of three reports of sexual improprieties against then-seminarian Daniel McCormack involving two adult males and a minor. Kicanas told the Sun-Times in 2007 that there was no "credible" allegation against McCormack.

McCormack is serving a five-year prison term for molesting five boys while he was assigned to a West Side parish.

SNAP members, who think Kicanas should have stopped McCormack's ordination, distributed leaflets Sunday morning in front of Holy Name Cathedral urging Catholics to call George and other church officials to protest Kicanas' expected appointment.
