Chanhassen Priest Cited in St. Paul Park Sex Sting Resigns By Mara H. Gottfried Pioneer Press November 5, 2010 http://www.twincities.com/ci_16538505?source=most_emailed&nclick_check=1 A priest who was cited in an undercover police sting at a St. Paul park Thursday has resigned as pastor of a Chanhassen church, the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis said Friday. Michael John Krenik, 53, "exposed himself to a police officer in the park area" near Eustis Street and Mississippi River Boulevard at 1:20 p.m., according to a police incident report. Police took Krenik into custody and cited him for misdemeanor indecent exposure/lewd conduct. He was then released, the report said. Krenik was the pastor at St. Hubert Catholic Community. Reached at the church about noon Friday, Krenik said he would prefer not to comment. Later in the afternoon, archdiocese spokesman Dennis McGrath said Krenik had resigned as pastor. "Krenik will remain on restriction from all public ministry pending resolution of the case," McGrath said, adding that the archdiocese "is unaware of any previous instances of misconduct involving Krenik. The archdiocese will cooperate fully with law enforcement's investigation." Three other people were cited during Thursday's operation at Crosby Farm Regional Park and Meeker Island. Such undercover operations are in response to citizen complaints about lewd acts in public, police said. |
