It turns out that the dean was aware of the occurrences yet failed to report them until finding out about the third one. The victims' families are extremely unsatisifed with the verdict, stating that a 1-year deferred prison sentence and a fine were hardly enough to punish such behaviour. The scandal has surfaced as one of the many cases involving sexual abuse linked to religious figures across Europe and is sure to fuel further local criticism of the Luxembourg catholic church.
