Opening statements wrap up with testimony expected to get underway Wednesday morning in the first priest sex abuse trial permitted to go forward against Father Francis DeLuca.

WDEL's Amy Cherry reports from Superior Court in Dover.Audio Here

John Vai thought he wanted to be a priest. Now, he walks among the living dead. His attorneys say he goes through every day re-living nightmares of gruesome sexual abuse brought on by serial pedophile Francis DeLuca.

They say he's like a dormant volcano with eruption imminent -- the molten lava -- anger - bubbling inside him.

DeLuca is one of two defendants in this civil negligence suit. The other -- St. Elizabeth's Parish in Wilmington-- where he was employed.

Attorneys for the parish say DeLuca embodies evil, but he was so charming and so sneaky -- there's no way anyone at the church could've known a pedophile was living among them. They say Vai only has one clear memory of being abused by DeLuca and that was in New York and not in the church rectory.
