Newcastle Bishop Brian Farran said he would address the issue of ‘‘professional standards’’ during the 49th synod. The Newcastle Herald reported on Wednesday police were investigating whether well-known priest, the late Father Peter Rushton, was part of a broader paedophile ring involving other Anglican clergy. The synod, the diocese’s governing body, makes decisions on the laws, policies and activities of the church.
