Jury Retires in Trial of Ex-priest Accused of Sex Offences Birmingham Mail October 21, 2010 http://www.birminghammail.net/news/birmingham-news/2010/10/21/jury-retires-in-trial-of-ex-priest-accused-of-sex-offences-97319-27520292/ A jury has retired to consider its verdicts on a former priest accused of committing a string of sex offences against young boys in the West Midlands between 1959 and 1983. The jury, sitting at Birmingham Crown Court, has heard almost three weeks of evidence in the trial of James Robinson, who denies having any sexual contact with six alleged victims. Robinson, who is originally from Aldridge, West Midlands, has pleaded not guilty to 21 charges including 12 counts of indecent assault. The 73-year-old told the court earlier this week that he had known five of the six complainants when they were boys, but said he had never touched any of the youngsters in a sexual way. The Crown alleges that Robinson, who was extradited from California last year, abused the boys before and during his time as a Roman Catholic priest working in Staffordshire, the Black Country, Birmingham and Coventry. |
