BELLEVILLE — Donald Grecco remains in custody.

The St. Catharines native and former Roman Catholic priest who earlier this year pleaded guilty to molesting three altar boys, appeared for a bail hearing Tuesday afternoon in Belleville, but he was not released.

Sources said Grecco couldn't find anybody to vouch for him if he would be released on bail.

His hearing was put over to Thursday.

Grecco is scheduled to be sentenced for the sexual abuse crimes on Oct. 29 in Hamilton.

The 70-year-old was arrested last week for a breach of his residency requirements while awaiting sentencing.

His arrest came a day after one of his former victims, Michael Blum of Dunnville, publicly announced that he is suing Grecco as well as former bishop James Wingle and the Roman Catholic Diocese of St. Catharines for $3 million on the grounds of abuse and negligence.

The civil suit hasn't been proven in court.

When Blum's lawyers attempted to serve Grecco with the lawsuit papers, they could not find him as he wasn't at the address where he was supposed to be. He was later found and arrested by the Ontario Provincial Police in Prince Edward County.
