And it is believed that hundreds more residents across Greater Manchester’s are yet to come forward. To date, more than one billion Euros has been paid out in compensation to more than 15,000 victims of the child abuse scandal which has rocked the Catholic Church in Ireland and elsewhere in the world. Last year, a damning report was published following a nine-year investigation and documented six decades of physical, sexual and emotional abuse at residential institutions — including orphanages and industrial schools — run by 18 religious orders. In Greater Manchester, a total of 200 people are fighting for justice. Peter McDonnell, whose Dublin-based solicitors Peter McDonnell & Associates represents victims worldwide including the alleged victims in Greater Manchester, said: “The types of abuse are varied and include lack of education, child labour, under-nourishment as well as the even more horrifying physical, sexual and psychological abuse.” Any new victims of the abuse can call 00 353 1 6694696.
