Bishop Eddie Long Scandal: Why Hasn't Eddie Long Proclaimed His Innocence? By Amanda Collins Prime Writer News Network September 27, 2010 http://primewriter.com/news-1246-headlines/?tag=eddie-long-announcement Bishop Eddie Long scandal: Why hasn't Eddie Long claimed his innocence? (photos, videos) Bishop Eddie Long has released a statement through his attorney, dropped out of press conferences, cancelled an appearance on the Tom Joyner show, and when speaking to his congregation on Sunday regarding the looming scandal and four civil lawsuits of sexual coercion, didn't deny the allegations. Why hasn't Bishop Eddie Long addressed the allegations head on and flat out denied them? Why hasn't Eddie Long claimed his innocence and stated he is not guilty? Some have said that they believe Eddie Long is guilty and look to the wording he has used throughout the scandal as evidence. When those in the public spotlight are caught in scandals, they often use a play of words to get out of answering tough questions. Do you remember former president Bill Clinton and the fiasco that ensued? Bill Clinton's play on words was so great he tried to redefine the meaning of sexual intimacy and sparked a controversy regarding whether oral sex was sexual in nature or not! Listening to Bishop Eddie Long's statement on the scandal this morning was reminiscent of Bill Clinton's statement. Why didn't Eddie Long categorically deny the allegations by verbally stating that he never had sex with the four men (or any men, for that matter) in question. Even Michael Jackson, in the midst of all his scandals and high profile allegations of pedophilia, went on television and said he never touched a child. Though many people once thought Michael Jackson was guilty, some have changed their minds after his death. Michael Jackson's sudden death didn't lead to widespread reports or abuse or lawsuits suing his estate. Since Michael Jackson died, his accusers have been silenced. Why didn't Eddie Long boldly proclaim his innocence and flat out deny the charges. Instead, Bishop Eddie Long said, "Please hear this. Please hear this: I've been accused. I'm under attack. I want you to know, as I said earlier, I am not a perfect man. But this thing I'm gon' fight. There have been allegations and attacks made on me. I have never in my life portrayed myself as a perfect man. But I am not the man that's being portrayed on the television. That's not me. That is not me. By the counsel of my lawyers, they have advised me not to try this case in the media. I am not gon' try this case in the media. It will be tried in the court of justice and dealt with in the court of justice and please understand because that's the only place I think I'll get justice, but being in the hands of God. Please hear this. Please hear this: I've been accused. I'm under attack. I want you to know, as I said earlier, I am not a perfect man. But this thing I'm gon' fight. And I want you to know one other thing. I feel like David against Goliath, but I've got five rocks and I haven't thrown one yet." Though Bishop Long's attorneys suggested not speaking about the allegations, Bishop Long could have proclaimed his innocence. Why didn't he? Do you think if Bishop Eddie Long told the media he was innocent or said he never slept with young males in his church he would be "trying his case in the media?" |
