US Man Man Pleads Guilty to Sexually Abusing Boys at Haiti School By John Christoffersen Canadian Press August 18 2010 http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianpress/article/ALeqM5ibRbGfPcbQUJMhNzGRq13h7pKUWg A U.S. man has admitted to sexually abusing eight boys at a school he founded in Haiti for street children. Douglas Perlitz pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in New Haven on Wednesday to one count of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, a charge that carries up to 30 years in prison. Sentencing was set for Dec. 21. Perlitz is a former Connecticut resident who now lives in Eagle, Colorado. He was charged last year with enticing boys at the Project Pierre Toussaint School in Cap-Haitien into sex acts by promising them food, shelter and other items. Prosecutors say Perlitz also withheld benefits and threatened to expel the boys if they refused his wishes. Perlitz founded the school in 1997 when he lived in Connecticut. |
