Parish Closings Are Meant to Strengthen the Church: News Comment of the Day

Members of the Community of St. Peter in Cleveland gather for their first mass in their new home on Euclid Avenue, Sunday, August 15, 2010. They were part of the closed St. Peter Catholic Church. Bell ringers from left to right are Chrissy Morscher, Ann Klonowski, Glenda Carbaugh, and Jo Anne Scholz. (Marvin Fong / The Plain Dealer)

The response to an article in today's Plain Dealer the pastor and former parishioners of St. Peter Church held mass on their own shows that many are still angry over the Bishop Lennon's decision to close local parishes. In response to this frustration, cleveland.com user softserve73 has the following to say:

Parish closings are tough. But it does not close the Church. Whether you are able to believe it or not, the decisions were to try to strengthen the Church. Allow a conversion in your life to become more open to love. Let the anger and dissention go. Join another of the many great parishes that already exist and could use your help. If you don't want to donate money, that's fine. But, turn in an empty envelope so a parish knows that you are attending that parish.

Go to the Fest, go to XLT Eucharistic Adoration at Borromeo Seminary, make TEC or Cursillo (spelling?) or a weekend parish renewal. See all that the Church has to offer.

At the end of Mass we hear, "go in peace to love and serve the Lord." Serve the Lord, serve Him. Go in Peace.
