Flores, 37, of the 600 block of Brook Forest Avenue in Shorewood, will appear in court at 9 a.m. Aug. 6. He is charged with 16 felonies, including predatory sexual assault, criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual abuse, indecent solicitation of a child and attempted aggravated sexual abuse in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of his now 13-year-old godson. Glenn Sowa, Flores' defense attorney, said in court that he expects discovery in the preliminary hearings for Flores to be finished by the Aug. 6 court date. The Kane County State's Attorney's Office said between Jan. 1, 2005, and Jan. 1, 2010, Flores had sexual contact with a St. Charles minor between the ages of 8 to 13. They allege that during the same period, Flores also tried to have sexual contact with the victim's older brother, who also was a minor. The priest, a native of Bolivia, was first was charged Jan. 15 and surrendered to authorities Jan. 20. The April 27 indictment, which added nine new counts to the original charges, was based on information received as the investigation continued. Flores is being held on $1 million bail. If he posts bond, he must surrender his passport, is not allowed to have contact with the victim or victim's family and cannot have contact with anyone younger than 17. Sowa said bail for Flores is at a "standstill." The most serious charge Flores is facing could carry up to 30 years in prison if he is convicted. |
