Courageous Example of La Sapienza University for Britain and the world The handful of university students and professors at La Sapienza University in Rome forced Benedict XVI to cancel his speech at their university convocation in 2006. The students and the professors "judged" Benedict XVI and condemned him to have no place and no say whatsoever at the important convocation of their school. La Sapienza happens to be a former pontifical university. (It is the largest university in Italy, if not in Europe). La Sapienza was founded by the pope but it is now a secular university. So the students in their protest were in essence saying: "Thanks to the pope then for founding this school century ago, but no thanks to Benedict XVI, this pope now." WE too can say, "Thanks to the pope and the good missionaries then, but no thanks to Benedict XVI, now."
