	Cornwall Pedophile Inquiry Cost $50 Million Toronto Sun June 17, 2010 http://www.torontosun.com/news/canada/2010/06/17/14421431.html The Cornwall Public Inquiry, a five-year look at the allegations of child sexual abuse and rumours of a pedophile ring in Cornwall, Ont., came with a $50-million price tag. CBC reports the inquiry, which was established in 2005 to examine public institutions' response to the allegations in Cornwall, spent $50.2 million by March 15, 2010. The inquiry released its final report in December. About 60% of the costs went to legal fees for parties at the inquiry, including accused pedophiles, sexual abuse victims and the local Catholic diocese. In the 1990s, reports of alleged sexual abuse of a former altar boy by a Catholic priest and a probation officer led to a larger-scale investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police. At least 69 alleged victims came forward. Fifteen men were charged, although only one was convicted. Rumours of a pedophile ring in Cornwall swirled and some people complained about the investigation. Inquiry commissioner Normand Glaude provided a series of recommendations to the province on how to respond in similar circumstances and how to support healing and reconciliation in the future.
