LOS ANGELES—The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles will not appeal plans to release depositions by Cardinal Roger Mahony and other church officials regarding clergy abuse cases later this week.

Archdiocese spokesman Tod Tamberg confirmed Monday that there would be no effort to block the release.

Some of the transcripts are from a sexual abuse lawsuit involving defrocked priest Michael Baker.

The lawsuit settled earlier this year for $2.2 million but Mahony's deposition testimony about the case has not been released.

The 61-year-old Baker pleaded guilty in 2007 to molesting two boys and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

He has been accused of molesting nearly 20 children over more than two decades.

Mahony has previously acknowledged making mistakes in how he handled Baker.
