"I gained a kidney, but I also gained a very important friend. I never saw that coming my way," says Phil Saviano, the recipient of the kidney donation. Susan Pavlak gave her kidney to Phil Saviano because she simply saw she could help someone out. Phil Saviano has a history of sexual abuse and at age thirty-two was diagnosed with H.I.V. He is now the founder of an organization set up for survivors of sexual abuse by priests and has a national reputation as an advocate for victims of sexual abuse. Susan Pavlak, who is a member of Saviano's organization, introduced Saviano to her mother this past weekend.
