Diari de Girona reports that the local parish priest, Antoni Vinas, is said to have taken off his clothes during the Eucharist service last Sunday, leaving himself in front of the altar wearing nothing greater than swimming trucks and sandals with the intention of then whipping himself with his belt. He told the faithful that he was carrying out an behave of ‘reconciliation’. The congregation prevented the priest from going any further. Reports say that the service, which had been called to celebrate a Pensioners’ Fiesta, continued normally, although some of the faithful decided to leave early. The Bishopric issued a announcement saying they would study the case and take a decision this month, ‘for the good of the rector’.
