Het bisdom van Brugge, tot voor kort onder de hoede van bisschop Roger Vangheluwe, wordt belaagd. Er lopen massa's haatmails binnen en zaterdagmorgen werd er zelfs met stenen gegooid. De remmen zijn los.
Een kassei keilde door de ruit van het bisschoppelijk paleis. Daarbij raakte niemand gewond.
Woordvoerder Peter Rossel van het bisdom noemt dergelijke acties "nutteloze agressie tegen onschuldige mensen". De politiepatrouilles in de buurt van het bisschoppelijk paleis zijn opgevoerd.
Ook de abdij van Westvleteren waar Roger Vangheluwe onderdak zocht, wordt bedolven onder haatmails. Bisschop Vangheluwe moest enkele weken geleden toegeven dat hij een familielid jarenlang seksueel misbruikte.
Mensen laten hun opgekropte woede de vrije loop. Zo zegt Wim Vangheluwe, een jonge priester-leraar uit Wevelgem en verre familie van de ontslagen bisschop, dat hij op straat uitgescholden wordt voor "pedofiel".

A cobblestone was hurled through the window of the episcopal palace. No one was injured. Spokesman Peter Rossel said such actions are unnecessry aggression against innocent people. Police patrols were placed near the episcopal palace.
The Westvleteren abbey where Roger Vangheluwe sought shelter is also overwhelmed with hate mail. The bishop recently admitted that he sexually abused a family member for years.
