The former principal of Cardinal Hayes High School has been arrested on charges of grand larceny and other offenses following an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of school and alumni funds totaling $50,000.

Christopher Keogan, 53, of 327 St. Nicholas Avenue, Manhattan, is charged with four counts of forgery in the 2nd degree, four counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument in the 2nd degree, one count of grand larceny in the 3rd degree, and one count of grand larceny in the 4th degree. Keogan is facing a maximum sentence of up to 7 years imprisonment if convicted of the most serious offense of forgery.

Between August and September of 2007, the defendant allegedly forged and then deposited into his personal bank account, four separate money orders totaling over $1,000, which were provided to Cardinal Hayes High School to cover summer school tuition. It is also alleged that between October 2005 and March of 2008, Keogan stole more than $3,000, by using a credit card issued to the Cardinal and Gold Fund, Inc., a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting Cardinal Hayes High School to make personal, non-school related purchases.

Keogan, accompanied by his attorney, surrendered to the Bronx District Attorney Detective investigators and was arraigned on the indictment before Acting State Supreme Court Justice Steven Barrett. Keogan was released on his own recognizance.
