The Archbishop of Rosario defended the action taken by the Church.

The Archdiocese of Rosario announced that a commission is to be created to deal with advice on preventing new cases of abuse of authority and sexual harassment, and it will act on the orientation of potential victims.

The decision was announced in the middle of the controversy over the allegations in the parish of Our Lady of Pompeya, though the Archbishop Jose Luis Mollaghan ensures that the initiative comes from before.

The committee will be chaired by Mollaghan, who sought the cooperation of the Family Ministry Archdiocesan for the pastoral care of children.

“The idea is to have a group of qualified people, able to assist a possible affected victim,” Mollaghan said.

The initiative was announced after complaints of alleged acts of sexual abuse committed by former pastor of Our Lady of Pompeya Church, located in the west of the southern city of Santa Fe, the priest Reynaldo Narvais.

Narvais was reported for sexual harassment and abuse of authority against eight people from the institution of 5160 Mendoza, including a teacher and a disabled minor. Narvais was suspended from his post at the School of Our Lady of Pompeya.

Mollaghan Archbishop admitted that “the congregation agreed to pay a 200 thousand pesos compensation to one of the alleged victims of Father Reynaldo, which does not mean to accept that the crime actually occurred.”
