The Beacon reproduces the letter that David Spotanski wrote while he was serving as chancellor of the Belleville, Illinois diocese under Bishop Gregory, who was then president of the US bishops' conference. (He has since become the Archbishop of Atlanta.) "Our children are more important to Sharon and me than anything in the world," Spotanski wrote. He told Bishop Gregory: "No priest, no religious, no lay person who is not a parent can truly appreciate the incredible weight of that single sentence."
