Judge Considers Mediation in Diocese Bankruptcy By Randall Chase The News Journal April 19, 2010 http://www.delawareonline.com/article/20100419/NEWS/100419038/Judge+considers+mediation+in+diocese+bankruptcy WILMINGTON — A bankruptcy judge is considering whether to appoint a mediator in the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington's bankruptcy. Judge Christopher Sontchi heard arguments today on a request by the diocese and its creditors committee for a mediator, but he did not immediately rule. The judge instead directed diocese attorneys to meet with attorneys representing its creditors and its insurers to see if they could agree on a mediator and a mediation process. Some insurers complained that they were being forced to participate in mediation, while others questioned the process and the mediator selected by the diocese and its creditors committee, which consists of alleged victims of priest sex abuse. Sontchi said he would take up the matter again at a May 4 hearing after the attorneys meet. |
