DELAWARE -- Could the pensions of lay employees of the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington be in jeopardy from the Diocese's bankruptcy filing?

Widener University law professor Michael Hussey tells WDEL News the issue is complicated by the fact that church organizations aren't subject to minimum funding requirements under the federal Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

The Diocese filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last fall, citing the high number of child sexual abuse cases filed against it.
