10:50 a.m. March 17 — An official from a national support group for those who have been sexually abused in religious organizations has scheduled a visit to Guam next week.

Joelle Casteix, the volunteer Southwest Regional director of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is scheduled to arrive March 22, according to a news release.

While here, she plans to hold confidential support group meetings and public events to draw attention to and foster an open dialogue about the issue of alleged child sex abuse in the Archdiocese of Agana.

The group last month had asked Guam's Catholic leaders to answer questions and address victims' concerns. SNAP has also asked Archbishop Anthony Apuron to disclose information on clerics the group says allegedly abused children on Guam.

Apuron has responded that the Catholic Church doesn't tolerate any kind of sexual abuse and that there's an effective safety plan in place to protect all children who serve in the church.

More information on times and locations of the planned events and meetings will be released as they become available, the SNAP news release stated.
