The Muenster Diocese said on Sunday that Bishop Genn agreed to relieve the priest of his duties and has asked the commission within the diocese responsible for investigating abuse allegations to look into the case. The diocese said there were no current accusations against the Rev Klaus Evers but that he had told church leaders the current discussion about sexual abuse by clergy members had triggered memories of an "earlier indiscretion". Germany has been rocked in recent weeks by a wave of allegations of sexual abuse of minors, many of them at the hands of Roman Catholic priests.
