The meeting between the Pope and Irish bishops to discuss clerical and institutional abuse has been deemed "a charade" by victims today.
Benedict XVI branded the abuse of Irish children as a "heinous crime" following the two days of talks, but did not offer any apology.
The Pontiff also claimed that a "weakening of faith" had been a significant factor in the sexual abuse of children.
He is now preparing a pastoral letter to read to mass-goers here during Lent.
